To me is is very therapeutic. In my spare time I also enjoy reading and watching old movies - the classics - like Wuthering Heights, Gone With the Wind, It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World. There is another side to me that is a bit of an adrenaline junkie - I love roller coasters, zip lining, white water rafting, and plan one day to do a tandem jump.

Please tell us about yourself and your family:I am the oldest of five siblings, therefore the wisest and some would say the bossiest. I married my highschool sweetheart, Rick Straight in 1981. We have two children together. Our daughter Katie was born in 1984. She is a girly girl through and through. She is married and lives with her husband David in Gretna. They were also high school sweethearts. They have given us three beautiful granddaughters - Karrigan, who eats sleeps and drinks volleyball, Brynn, our Tae Kwon Do star and Kyla, our fashionista soccer player. Our son Kyle, loves all sports and was pretty good. He was a hunter, fisherman, bowler, golfer, swam swim team, played baseball, basketball and football. Tragically in November of 2002 he was killed in a car accident. He was a freshman in high school onl 15 years old. He was not wearing his seatbelt. My husband and I have two dogs Sadie and Mazie.

What is your philosophy of education? My philosophy of education is every child has a right to learn. We don’t all learn the same way and at the same same. We, as teachers, need to try and adjust our instructional methods to better fit the needs of the child. I find myself constantly doing research to find what works best for different types of learners. What kind of environment can I give them? What is the best way to handle behavior management? I find myself constantly evolving. I like that!
