Winside Philanthropy Project Funds Pool Kits for Haven House

On Wednesday, May 16th, members of Winside’s Youth Leadership Council (YLC) delivered 40 pool kits to Haven House in Wayne, Nebraska, in culmination of their Philanthropy Project that was funded in February.  The philanthropy contest is an opportunity for youth age kindergarten to 25 to receive funding up to $1,000 for a project that will make a positive difference in the lives of people in northeast Nebraska.  The Philanthropy Council chose 10 contest winners to fund.  Projects not funded by the council were given the opportunity to be funded by private donors during a showcase held before the Celebrate Giving Banquet.

The YLC requested funding to provide pool kits mothers and children seeking shelter through Wayne’s Haven House.  While the project was not a contest winner, private donors fully funded their project entitled ‘Fun in the Sun for Lil’ Ones’.  The Winside YLC worked with the Wayne Aquatic Center to purchase 100 children and 50 adult daily pool passes.  Additionally, the YLC made 40 kits consisting of a mesh pool bag, beach towel, and sunscreen for mothers and children seeking assistance with Haven House.
